This painting found its subjects in, of all things, a cookbook. It was published by the University of Michigan Music Society some years ago and included recipes from some of the receptions given for artists who performed in Ann Arbor. The pages were punctuated by a series of striking photos of musical instruments. I put two of the photos together and made some other “adjustments” to create this composition which reflects my deep interest in such things.
